Kate Homer LaRiviere began taking Suzuki violin lessons as a three-year-old with Louise Wear, and continued her lessons as a teenager with Marylou Speaker Churchill at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston, MA. Kate studied violin performance with Kenneth Goldsmith at Rice University, and Monte Belknap at the Brigham Young University where she received her Bachelors of Music in violin performance. She later studied violin performance and Suzuki pedagogy with Katie Lansdale, Teri Einfeldt and Linda Fiore at the Hartt School in Hartford, CT where she received her Masters of Music in violin performance and was a member of the 20-20 intensive chamber music program. Kate has performed as soloist with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra, and has served as concertmaster of the Brigham Young University Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras as well as the Hartt School of Music's Symphony Orchestra. Kate has been a Suzuki teacher at the Ethel Walker School, the Hartford Boys and Girls Club, Hunter Montessori School, and the Cleveland Music School Settlement. Kate has freelanced with a number of symphonies including the Sacramento Philharmonic, the Modesto Symphony, and the Merced Symphony. She currently lives in Brookline, MA where she teaches in her home studio. In her spare time Kate enjoys rock climbing, eating everything and reading to her two children ages 13 and 9.
